Plan the handling task before moving the package
Package handling involves more than the weight printed on a label. The shape of the item, the distance, the route to the destination and the available equipment all affect how the task should be approached.

Look at the whole task
OSHA identifies lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling and repeated movements among ergonomic risk factors. A handling task should be considered in context rather than judged by a single number or by whether a similar box was moved yesterday.
Use the training and equipment guidance provided for your role. If the package or setting falls outside what you have been trained to handle, ask for direction. This overview does not establish a lifting limit or replace an assessment of the actual task.
Understand the path and the equipment
Before moving an item, consider where it needs to go and whether the approach is clear. Follow your training for equipment selection, load limits and use. A hand truck or other aid is useful only when it is appropriate for the task and used correctly.
OSHA’s materials-handling guidance emphasizes training, suitable work practices and controls. The relevant question is not whether an aid is nearby, but whether the plan fits the package and the conditions at the location.
Ask for help with a precise description
If assistance is needed, explain what makes the task difficult: the package dimensions, access point, equipment question or other observed condition. This gives the supporting team a better basis for arranging the next step.
Do not turn uncertainty into a contest of strength. The delivery requirement and the handling method both matter. A clear request for help is part of doing the assignment responsibly, particularly when the circumstances differ from the training example.
Report recurring obstacles
If a location repeatedly presents a handling problem, share the specifics through the established process. The team may need to review instructions, equipment or how the task is assigned. Useful feedback identifies the work condition rather than blaming the person encountering it.
Report discomfort or an injury through the required workplace process and seek appropriate help. For candidates, ask about the position’s actual physical duties and training so you understand the work before accepting an opportunity.
Connect careful handling with accurate records
Before completing a delivery, confirm the destination and follow the authorized placement or handoff instructions. If the package condition or receiving arrangement raises a concern, use the established support process. Care for the item includes knowing when the planned delivery needs review.
Record the delivery or exception accurately with the tools provided for your role. Clear information helps the team understand whether the package was delivered, requires another action, or needs attention because of an observed issue. Package care and reliable documentation work together.
